KB19 Participatory Mapping Initiative
Bridging the disconnect between contemporary art discourses and local geopolitics in partnership with the Orangi Pilot Project.
The first KBT-OPP Artists Residency was an active intervention conducted in collaboration with the Orangi Pilot Project (OPP). It aimed to bridge the disconnect between contemporary art discourses and the nuanced geopolitics that surrounds them.
The primary focus was on mapping—honoring the legacy of OPP's late director, Parveen Rahman. It explored the mapping methods by which she empowered local communities to chart and record the land they owned, allowing them to be allotted formal rights. This participatory mapping methodology formed the foundation of the residency's visual approach.
